The WM8741 is a very high performance stereo DAC designed for audio applications such as professional recording systems, A/V receivers and high specification CD, DVD and home theatre systems. The device supports PCM data input word lengths from 16 to 32-bits and sampling rates up to 192kHz. The WM8741 also supports DSD bitstream data format, in both direct DSD and PCM-converted DSD modes.
The WM8741 includes fine resolution volume and soft mute control, digital de-emphasis and a range of advanced digital filter responses, followed by a digital interpolation filter, multi-bit sigma delta modulator and stereo DAC. Wolfson's patented architecture optimises the linearity of the DAC and provides maximum insensitivity to clock jitter.
The digital filters include several selectable roll-off and performance characteristics. The user can select between standard sharp or slow roll-off responses. In addition, the WM8741 includes a selection of advanced digital filter characteristics including non-half band filters and minimum phase filters. This flexibility provides a range of benefits, such as significantly reduced pre-ringing and minimal group delay. The internal digital filters can also be by-passed and the WM8741 used with an external digital filter.
The WM8741 supports two connection schemes for audio DAC control. The 2/3 wire serial control interface provides access to all features. A range of features can also be ccessed by hardware control interface.
The WM8741 is available in a convenient 28-SSOP package, and is pin compatible with the WM8740.

WM8746 is a high performance 6-channel DAC designedfor audio applications such as DVD, home theatre systems,and digital TV. The WM8746 supports data input wordlengths from 16 to 32-bits and sampling rates up to 192kHz.The WM8746 can convert up to 6 channels at sample ratesfrom 8 to 192kHz. Additionally WM8746 supports 2channels at 192kHz and 4 channels at 96kHzsimultaneously.
The WM8746 consists of a serial interface port, digitalinterpolation filters, multi-bit sigma delta modulators and 6DACs in a small 28-pin SSOP package. The WM8746 alsoincludes a digitally controllable mute and attenuator functionon each channel.
The WM8746 supports a variety of connection schemes foraudio DAC control. The serial control interface providesaccess to a wide range of featuresincluding on-chip mute,attenuation and phase reversal. A hardware controllableinterface is also available. It is pin-compatible with theWM8736, (apart from RSTB pin which is typically unused).The WM8746 is an ideal device to interface to AC-3,DTS, and MPEG audio decoders for surround soundapplications, or for use in "universal" high definition audioplayers supporting DVD-A formats.
