Description

The WM8023 is a kind of 8-bit voltage output digital to analogue converter (DAC) with buffered reference input (high impedance). The device is guaranteed monolithic and is simple to use. It operate from a standard 5 V supply, or else a ±5 V supply. When used as programmable attenuator, and operated with dual supplies, the device requires no external coupling components. Digital interfacing to the device is via a simple 3 pin serial interface and is CMOS/TTL and microprocessor compatible. The digital inputs feature schmitt triggers for high noise immunity.

The device is packaged in 8-pin small outline (SO) of the WM8023 which allows digital control of analogue function in space critical applications. It is characteristised over commercial and industrial temperature ranges and does not require external trimming. The typical applications include: (1)programmable voltage source; (2)programmable attenuator; (3)telecommunications; (4)automatic test equipment; (5)industrial control; (6)signal synthesis; (7)multiplication/mixing; (8)programmable impedance.

There are some features of the WM8023 as follows: (1)8 bit D to A converter; (2)guaranteed monotonicity; (3)single (5 V) or dual (±5 V) supply operation; (4)voltage output 0 V to 2.5 V or -5 to 2 V; (5)microprocessor, TTL, CMOS compatible; (6)high impedance reference voltage input; (7)buffered voltage output; (8)fast setting time (3 s to 0.5 LSB); (9)low power consumption (1.5 mA); (10)very small 8 pin SO package.
