The SPO256A-AL2 (speech processor) is a kind of single chip N-Channel MOS LSI device. It can synthesize allophones using its stored program. The achievable output is equivalent to a flat frequency response ranging from 0 to 5 KHz, a dynamic range of 42 dB, and signal to noise ratio of approximately 35 dB.
There are some features as follows: (1)supports allophone synthesis; (2)unlimited vocabulary; (3)wide operating voltage; (4)simple interface to most microcomputers or microprocessors. The device includes four basic functions: (1)a software programmable digital filter that can be made to model a VOCAL TRACT; (2)a 16K ROM which stores the allphones; (3)a MICROCONTROLLER which controls the data flow from the ROM to the digital filter, the assembly of the "word strings" necessary for linking speech elements together, and the amplitude and pitch information tc excite the digital filter; (4)a PULSE WIDTH MODULATOR that creates a digital output which is converted to an analog signal when filtered by an external low pass filter.
The following is about the maximum ratings: (1)all pins with respect to VSS: -0.3 to 8.0 V; (2)storage temperature: -25 to 125. Then is about the standard conditions: (1)clock-crystal frequency: 3.120 MHz; (2)operating temperature: 0 to +70.
