There are some features SPO256A-AL2 as follows: (1)supports allophone synthesis; (2)unlimited vocabulary; (3)wide operating voltage; (4)simple interface to most microcomputers or microprocessors. The device includes four basic functions: (1)a software programmable digital filter that can be made to model a VOCAL TRACT; (2)a 16K ROM which stores the allphones; (3)a MICROCONTROLLER which controls the data flow from the ROM to the digital filter, the assembly of the "word strings" necessary for linking speech elements together, and the amplitude and pitch information tc excite the digital filter; (4)a PULSE WIDTH MODULATOR that creates a digital output which is converted to an analog signal when filtered by an external low pass filter.
