The TDA8204 is designed as nicam decoder which performs two main functions, first one is NICAM decoding, second one is audio signal recovery (DAC) conbined with audio signal switching (matrix). An I2s output is provided for digital audio when required and all functions of both the TDA8204 and the TDA8205 are accessed via an on-chip I2c bus interface.
TDA8204 has many features. The first one is highly integrated two-chip solution for nicam demodulation. The second one is data and sound recovery according to EBU SPB 424 specifications. The third one is I2s interface for digital audio purposes. The fourth one is 4 times up sampling digital filter and noise shaper. The fifth one is I2c interface for microcontroller software drive. The sixth one is pay TV application capabilities. The seventh one is automatic error monitoring. That are all the main features.
