The PCF8576DU/2DA/2 is a peripheral device which interfaces to almost any Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) with low multiplex rates. PCF8576DU/2DA/2 generates the drive signals for any static or multiplexed LCD containing up to four backplanes and up to 40 segments. PCF8576DU/2DA/2 can be easily cascaded for larger LCD applications. The PCF8576D is compatible with most microprocessors or microcontrollers and communicates via a two-line bidirectionalI2C-bus. Communication overheads are minimized by a display RAM with auto-incremented addressing, by hardware subaddressing and by display memory switching (static and duplex drive modes).
Features of the PCF8576DU/2DA/2 are:(1)Single chip LCD controller and driver; (2)Selectable backplane drive con?guration: static or 2, 3, 4 backplane multiplexing; (3)Selectable display bias con?guration: static,1/2 or1/3; (4)Internal LCD bias generation with voltage-follower buffers; (5)40 segment drives:-Up to twenty 7-segment numeric characters-Up to ten 14-segment alphanumeric characters-Any graphics of up to 160 elements; (6)40 × 4-bit RAM for display data storage; (7)Auto-incremented display data loading across device subaddress boundaries; (8)Display memory bank switching in static and duplex drive modes; (9)Versatile blinking modes; (10)Independent supplies possible for LCD and logic voltages; (11)Wide power supply range: from 1.8 V to 5.5 V; (12)Wide logic LCD supply range:-From 2.5 V for low-threshold LCDs-Up to 6.5 V for guest-host LCDs and high-threshold twisted nematic LCDs; (13)Low power consumption; (14)400 kHz I2C-bus interface; (15)May be cascaded for large LCD applications (up to 2560 elements possible); (16)No external components; (17)Compatible with chip-on-glass and chip-on-board technology; (18)Manufactured in silicon gate CMOS process.
