The TL16C550DIPTRG4 is designed as asynchronous communications element with autoflow control. It is speed and operating voltage upgrades (but functional equivalents) of the TL16C550C asynchronous communications element (ACE), which in turn is a functional upgrade of the TL16C450.
TL16C550DIPTRG4 has many features and some are listed here. (1) Programmable auto-RTS and auto-CTS. (2) In auto-CTS mode, CTS controls transmitter. (3) In auto-RTS mode, RCV FIFO contents and threshold control RTS. (4) Serial and modem control outputs drive a RJ11 cable directly when equipment is on the same power drop. (5) Capable of running with all existing TL16C450 software. (6) After reset, all registers are identical to the TL16C450 register set. (7) Up to 24MHz clock rate for up to 1.5Mbaud operation with Vcc=5V. (8) Up to 20MHz clock rate for up to 1.25Mbaud operation with Vcc=3.3V. (9) Up to 16MHz clock rate for up to 1Mbaud operation with Vcc=2.5V. (10) In the TL16C450 mode, hold and shift registers eliminate the need for precise synchronization between the CPU and serial data. And so on.
Some absolute maximum ratings of TL16C550DIPTRG4 have been concluded into several points as follow. (1) Its supply voltage range, Vcc would be from -0.5V to 7V. (2) Its input voltage range at any input, Vi would be from -0.5V to 7V. (3) Its output voltage range would be from -0.5V to 7V. (4) Its operating free-air temperature range would be from -40°C to 85°C. (5) Its storage temperature range would be from -65°C to 150°C. (6) Its lead temperature 1,6 mm (1/16 inch) from case for 10 seconds would be 260°C. It should be noted that stresses beyond those listed under "absolute maximum ratings" may cause permanent damage to the device.
