The LM7806 is designed as one kind of 1.5A positive voltage regulators with three terminals. It offers several fixed output voltages making them useful in wide range of applications. When used as a zener diode/resistor combination replacement, it usually results in an effective output impedance improvement of two orders of magnitude, lower quiescent current. Typical applications include post regulator for switching DC/DC converter and bias supply for analog circuits.
LM7806 has eight features. (1)Output current of 1.5A. (2)Output voltage tolerance of 5%. (3)Internal thermal overload protection. (4)Internal short-circuit limited. (5)No external component. (6)Output voltage 5.0V, 6V, 8V, 9V, 10V, 12V, 15V, 18V, 24V. (7)Offer in plastic TO-252, TO-220 & TO-263. (8)Direct replacement for LM78xx. Those are all the main features.
Some absolute maximum ratings of LM7806 have been concluded into several points as follow. (1)Its input voltage would be 35V. (2)Its operating free-air, case, virtual junction temperature would be from 0°C to 150°C. (3)Its storage temperature range would be from -65°C to 150°C. (4)Its lead temperature 1.6mm from case would be 260°C. It should be noted that stresses above those listed in absolute maximum ratings may cause permanent damage to device.
Also some electrical characteristics of LM7806 are concluded as follow. (1)Its operating voltage would be from 8V to 20V. (2)Its output voltage would be min 4.8V and typ 5.0V and max 5.2V.
