The DS14C88N which would be pin-for-pin compatible to the DS1488/MC1488 is designed as a quad line drivers designed to interface data terminal equipment (DTE) with data circuit-terminating equipment (DCE). This device translates standard TTL/CMOS logic levels to levels conforming to EIA-232-D and CCITT V.28 standards.
DS14C88N has four features. (1)Meets EIA-232D and CCITT V.28 standards. (2)LOW power consumption. (3)Wide power supply range which would be from ±5V to ±12V. (4)Available in SOIC package. Those are all the main features.
Some absolute maximum ratings of DS14C88N have been concluded into several points as follow. (1)Its supply voltage V+ pin would be +13V. (2)Its supply voltage V- pin would be -13V. (3)Its driver input voltage would be from (V+)+0.3V to GND-0.3V. (4)Its driver output voltage would be |(V+)-Vo|<=30V and |(V-)-Vo|<=30V. (5)Its continuous power dissipation would be 1513mW for N package and would be 1063mW for M package. (6)Its junction temperature would be 150°C. (7)Its lead temperature soldering 4 seconds would be 260°C. (8)Its storage temperature range would be from -65°C to 150°C. It should be noted that stresses above those listed in absolute maximum ratings may cause permanent damage to device.
Also some electrical characteristics of DS14C88N are concluded as follow. (1)Its maximum low input current would be max +10uA. (2)Its maximum high input current would be min -10uA. (3)Its low level input voltage would be min GND and max 0.8V. (4)Its high level input voltage would be min 2.0V and max V+. (5)Its low level output level would be typ -4.0V and max -3.0V at V+=4.5V and V-=-4.5V. (6)Its high level output level would be min 3.0V and typ 4.0V at V+=4.5V and V-=-4.5V.
