Freescale Semiconductor plans to develop Windows 8 with a 12-axis sensor development reference platform which is a kind of "black-box" of sensor integration.
The platform aims to "dramatically reduce system complexity" by the components which include an Xtrinsic MPL3115A2 precision altimeter, Xtrinsic MMA8451Q 3-axis accelerometer, Xtrinsic MAG3110 3-axis magnetometer, pressure and temperature sensor and an analog ambient light sensor.
The reference platform also allows for a selection of compatible gyroscopes and boasts Freescale’s ColdFire+ MCF51JU128VHS microcontroller for increasing contextual awareness in computers and tablets. What’s more, the platform is pretty much plug-and-play, able to connect via USB and without the need for any special drivers from Freescale.
The PCB has 4cm in length and just 1cm wide, and it is built specifically with Windows 8 integration in mind.
