Introduction to automobile lighting

Until now the development of automobile lighting has already experienced lots of changes both in the aspect of lighting or decorating. Different models need different kinds of lighting and lighting is a very important part of a car. Automobile lights include packing light, width lamp, dipped headlight, headlight on full beam, front fog lamp, rear fog lamp, turn light, backup light, caution light and so on. These lights have different functions. They work together to guarantee a normal operation of the car. Also, the different functions of them put forward different requirements to the materials and designs of the lamps.

There are three main kinds of lamps during the development of automobile lighting. Halogen lamp is a kind of lamp which is small in size and can withstand high temperature. It is made out of quartz glass and hard glass which has great mechanical strength. Under the same condition, a halogen lamp is much brighter than an electric incandescent lamp with a double or triple lifespan of it. It also has many different classifications and is usually used widely in headlamps and fog lamps. High intensity discharge lamp is another kind of lamp which is very popular. It uses Xenon to replace the traditional filament. It has greater illumination intensity than halogen lamp with low energy consumption. At the same time, the light it emits is as the same as the sunlight, which offers a more comfortable environment for drivers.

LED lights are also used extensively in this line. For example, it is used as room light, system state indicator, daytime running lamp, fog lamp and so on. Among all these applications, the most common one is stop lamp or turn lamp. Now price of the cars with LED lamps are brought down for the constant competition and the development of LED technology. As a new kind of lamp, LED lamp attracts attention of los of professionals and manufacturers in the field of automobile industry. Its benefits of energy-saving and long lifespan become the main reason for people to apply it to cars. Besides, with more and more attention having been paid to environmental-protection, LED technology is predicted to be used widely in cars manufacture, though halogen lamp and high intensity discharge lamp are mainly used now.
