8256AH General Description

The Intel 8256AH is a single-chip control oriented microcontroller which is fabricated on Intel's CHMOS III (8256AH) ROM technology. For the remainder of this datasheet references to the ROMless will be denoted as 8256AH. Being a member of the MCSÉ 51 microcontroller family, the 8256AH uses the same powerful instruction set, has the same architecture, and is pin-for-pin compatible with the existing MCS 51 microcontroller products. The 8256AH is an enhanced version of the 8256. It's added features make it an even more powerful microcontroller for applications that require Pulse Width Modulation, High Speed I/O, and up/down counting capabilities such as brake and traction control. It also has a more versatile serial channel that facilitates multi-processor communications.

Features of the 8256AH can be summarized as:(1)high Performance CHMOS Process;(2)extended automotive temperature range (-40 to +125 ambient);(3)three 16-Bit timer/counters;(4)programmable counter array with:high speed output,compare/ capture,pulse width modulator,watchdog timer capabilities;(5)128 bytes of on-chip data RAM;(6)boolean processor;(7)32 programmable I/O lines;(8)7 interrupt sources;(9)programmable serial channel with:-framing error detection,-automatic address recognition;(10)TTL and CMOS compatible logic levels;(11)64K external program memory space;(12)64K external data memory space;(13)MCS 51 microcontroller fully compatible instruction set;(14)power saving idle and power down modes;(15)ONCE (on-circuit emulation) mode;(16)available in PLCC and PDIP packages;(17)available in 12 MHz and 16 MHz versions.

The absolute maximum ratings of the 8256AH are:(1)ambient temperature under bias:0 to +70;(2)storage temperature:-65 to 150;(3)voltage on any other pin to VSS:-0.5V to +7V;(4)Iol I/O pin:15 mA;(5)power dissipation:1W.
