The 80286 is designed as high performance microprocessor with memory management and protection and specially optimized capabilities for multiple user and multi-tasking systems.
It has mant features. The first one is high performance HCMOS III technology. The second one is large address space which means 16 megabytes physical and 1 gigabyte virtual per task. The third one is integrated memory management, four level memory protection and support for virtual memory and operating systems. The fourth one is high bandwidth bus interface (12.5 megabytes/sec). The fifth one is industry standard O.S. support. The sixth one is optional processor extension which means 80287 high performance 80-bit numeric data processor. The seventh one is two 8086 upward compatible operating modes which means 8086 real address mode and protected virtual address mode. The eighth one is complete system development support which means assembler, PL/M, pascal and FORTRAN. The last one is it would be available in 68-pin PLCC (plastic leaded chip carrier) and 68-pin PGA (pin grid array). That are all the main features.
Some absolute maximum ratings have been concluded into several points as follow. The first one is about its ambient temperature under bias which would be from 0°C to +70°C. The second one is about its storage temperature range which would be from -65°C to +150°C. The third one is about its voltage on any pin with respect to ground which would be from -1.0V to +7V. The fourth one is about its power dissipation which would be 3.3W. The fifth one is about its supply current which would be max 600mA. It should be noted that stressing the device beyond the "absolute maximum ratings" may cause permanent damage. These are stress ratings only. And so on.
