Z86128

The Z86128 is designed as a single IC to provide the functional performance of a L21C decoder module. This superintegration VLSI device is completely self contained and only requires composite video signal, a horizontal SYNC signal as input and an "external keyer", i.e., video signal switch between TV video and closed-caption video to produce captioned video.

Z86128 has sixteen features. (1)Complete stand-alone line 21 cloced-caption controller which conforms to FCC line 21 closed-caption specifications of april 12, 1991. (2)Simple system interface. (3)Optional serial interface for mode. (4)Requires only two inputs to operate which means composite video and any horizontal timing pulse. (5)On-board analog sync and data dlicer and no external analog required. (6)CMOS VLSI design for low power and low cost. (7)On-board display RAM. (8)Odd or even field selectable in serial control mode. (9)On-board character font ROM - 12x18 character in 16x26 cell. (10)Visual attributes with color, underline, italic and blink. (11)Smooth scrolling. (12)Valid line 21 input detection. (13)Automatic screen blanking after 1.5 seconds with no valid input (auto blanking). (14)Automatic caption display RAM erase after 16 seconds with no valid input. (15)18-pin DIP package. (16)Automatic rease on channel change. That are all the main features.

Some absolute maximum ratings of Z86128 have been concluded into several points as follow. (1)Its supply voltage would be min -0.3V and max +7.0V. (2)Its storage temperature range would be from -65°C to +150°C. (3)Its operating ambient temperature range would be from 0°C to +70°C. It should be noted that stresses above those listed in absolute maximum ratings may cause permanent damage to device.

Also some DC characteristics of Z86128 are concluded as follow. (1)Its input voltage low would be min 0V and max 0.2Vdd. (2)Its input voltage high would be min 0.7Vdd and max Vdd. (3)Its output voltage low would be max 0.4V. (4)Its output voltage high would be min Vdd-0.4V. (5)Its input leakage would be min -3.0uA and max 3.0uA. (6)Its supply current would be max 20mA.
