The WM8777 is a high performance, multi-channel audio codec. The WM8777 is ideal for surround sound processing applicationsfor home hi-fi, automotive and other audio visual equipment. AS/PDIF transceiver with 4-channel input mux is included. Analoguedomain bass management processing, and front channel analoguetone control facilities are provided.
A stereo 24-bit multi-bit sigma delta ADC is used with a six stereochannel input selector. Each channel has analogue domain muteand programmable gain control. Sampling rates from 8kHz to192kHz are supported.
Four stereo 24-bit multi-bit sigma delta DACs of the WM8777 are provided, whichmay be used to support up to 7.1 channel operation. If preferred,5.1 operation may be chosen, with the spare stereo DAC used tosupport an Aux remote room. Sampling rates from 8kHz to 192kHzare supported. Each DAC channel has independent digital volumeand mute control. A set of input multiplexors allows switching of anexternal 5.1 analogue input, or bypass channel stereo analogueinput into the signal path. The front channel analogue signals maybe looped out of the chip prior to each master volume control, andexternal filtering applied in order to select treble and bass filtercharacteristics. Adjustment of tone controls is then achieved usingon-chip gain adjust amplifiersaddressed via the control interface.Analogue bass management support is provided, plus analoguestereo mixdown options.
The WM8777 is controlled via a serial interface giving access to allfeatures including channel selection, volume controls, tonecontrols, mutes, de-emphasis and power management facilities. The device is available in a 100-pin LQFP package.
