Description

The TL431 and TL432 are three-terminal adjustable shunt regulators, with specified thermal stability over applicable automotive, commercial, and military temperature ranges. The output voltage can be set to any value between Vref (approximately 2.5 V) and 36 V, with two external resistors (see Figure 17). These devices have a typical output impedance of 0.2 . Active output circuitry provides a very sharp turn-on characteristic, making these devices excellent replacements for Zener diodes in many applications, such as onboard regulation, adjustable power supplies, and switching power supplies. The TL432 has exactly the same functionality and electrical specifications as the TL431, but has different pinouts for the DBV and DBZ packages.

Both the TL431 and TL432 devices are offered in three grades, with initial tolerances (at 25°C) of 0.5%, 1%, and 2%, for the B, A, and standard grade, respectively. In addition, low output drift vs temperature ensures good stability over the entire temperature range.

The TL43xxC devices are characterized for operation from 0°C to 70°C, the TL43xxI devices are characterized for operation from −40°C to 85°C, and the TL43xxQ devices are characterized for operation from −40°C to 125°C.

The TL431 is designed as three-terminal adjustable shunt regulators, with specified thermal stability over applicable automotive, commercial, and military temperature ranges. The output voltage can be set to any value between Vref (approximately 2.5V) and 36V, with two external resistors.

It has six features. (1) Operation from -40°C to 125°C and would be 0.5% for B grade, 1% for A grade, 2% for standard grade. (2) Typical temperature drift is 6mV (C temp) and 14mV (I temp, Q temp). (3) Low output noise. (4) 0.2 typical output impedance. (5) Sink-current capability would be from 1mA to 100mA. (6) Adjustable output voltage would be from Vref to 36V. That are all the main features.

Some absolute maximum ratings over operating free-air temperature range (unless otherwise noted) have been concluded into several points as follow. (1) Its cathode voltage would be 37V. (2) Its continuous cathode current range would be from 100 mA to 150mA. (3) Its reference input current range would be from 50A to 10mA. (4) Its operating virtual junction temperature would be 150°C. (5) Its storage temperature range would be from -65°C to 150°C. It should be noted that stresses beyond those listed under "absolute maximum ratings" may cause permanent damage to the device.

Also some electrical characteristics about it. (1) Its reference voltage would be min 2440mV and typ 2495mV and max 2550mV. (2) Its deviation of reference voltage over full temperature range would be typ 6mV and max 16mV for SOT23-3 and TL432 devices and would be typ 4mV and max 25mV for all other devices. (3) Its reference current would be typ 2uA and max 4uA. (4) Its minimum cathode current for regulation would be typ 0.4mA and max 1mA. And so on.
