The SN75196N is designed as one kind of multiple RS-232 drivers and receivers. It combines five drivers and three receivers from the trade-standard SN75188 and SN75189 bipolar quadruple drivers and receivers, respectively. The flow-through design of the SN75196 decreases the part count, reduces the board space required, and allows easy interconnection of the UART and serial-port connector. The all-bipolar circuits and processing of the SN75196 provide a rugged, low-cost solution for this function.
SN75196N has seven features. (1)Single chip with easy interface between UART and serial-port connector of an external modem or other computer peripheral. (2)Five drivers and three receivers meet or exceed the requirements of TIA/EIA-232-F and ITU recommendation V.28. (3)Designed to support data rates up to 120kbit/s. (4)ESD protection meets or exceeds 10kV on RS-232 pins and 5kV on all other pins (human-body model). (5)Complement to the SN75185. (6)Pin-to-pin replacement for the goldstar GD75323. (7)Functional replacement for the MC145405. Those are all the main features.
Some SN75196N absolute maximum ratings have been concluded into several points as follow. (1)Its supply voltage would be 10V for Vcc and would be 15V for Vdd and would be -15V for Vss. (2)Its input voltage range would be from -15V to 7V for driver and would be from -30V to 30V for receiver. (3)Its output voltage range driver would be from -15V to 15V. (4)Its low level output current receiver would be 20mA. (5)Its storage temperature range would be from -65°C to 150°C. (6)Its lead temperature 1.6mm (1/16 inch) from case for 10 seconds would be 260°C.
