Specifications

Description

This QT60320 digital charge-transfer ("QT") QMatrix™ IC,which will project touch keys through almost any dielectric, e.g. glass, plastic, stone, ceramic, and even wood, up to thicknesses of 5 cm or more,is designed to detect human touch on up to 32 keys when used with a scanned, passive X-Y matrix. The touch areas are defined as simple 2-part interdigitated electrodes of conductive material, like copper or screened silver or carbon deposited on the rear of a control panel. The user could decide the key sizes, shapes and placement almost entirely arbitrary, and mix them within a single panel of keys and can vary by a factor of 20:1 in surface area. The user could also set the sensitivity of each key individually via simple functions over the serial port by a host microcontroller. The QT60320 would save time since the key setups are stored in an onboard eeprom. That  cause it do not need to be reloaded with each powerup.
The QT60320 has eight applications. The first one is security keypanels. The second one is appliance controls. The third one is ATM machines. The fourth one is automotive panels. The fifth one is industrial keyboards. The sixth one is outdoor keypads. The seventh one is touch-screens.The last one is machine tools. It also has some features. The first one is that creates 32 'touch buttons' through any dielectric. The second is 100% autocal for life - no adjustments required. The third one is 'N' key rollover: senses all 32 keys in parallel. The fourth one is keys individually adjustable for sensitivity. The fifth one is mix 'n match key sizes & shapes in one panel. The sixth one is tolerates a 20:1 variance in key sizes on a panel. The seventh one is panel thicknesses to 5 cm or more. The eighth one is back lit keys possible with ITO electrodes. The ninth one is LED status function drives. The tenth one is user-addressable multifunction drive pins. The eleventh one is user-addressable internal eeprom. The twelfth one is simple, universal serial interface. The thirteenth one is 5V single supply operation. The fourteenth one is 44-pin TQFP package. The fifteenth one is one square inch (6.5 square cm) of PCB required.
Some absolute maximum specifications of QT60320 have been given into several points. The first one is operating temp which should be as designated by suffix. The second one is storage temp which should be within -55 to +105oC.The third one is about VDD which should be within -0.5 to +6.0V.The fourth one is max continuous pin current( any control or drive pin) which should be ±20mA.The fifth one is short circuit duration to ground(any pin) which could be infinite. Then the next one is short circuit duration to VDD(any pin) which could also be infinite. The seventh one is voltage forced onto any pin which should be within -0.6V to (Vdd + 0.6) Volts.
