This digital charge-transfer ("QT") QMatrix™ IC, QT60248, which will project touch keys through almost any dielectric, e.g. glass, plastic, stone, ceramic, and even wood, up to thicknesses of 5 cm or more,is designed to detect human touch on up to 24 keys when used with a scanned, passive X-Y matrix. The touch areas are defined as simple 2-part interdigitated electrodes of conductive material, like copper or screened silver or carbon deposited on the rear of a control panel. The user could decide the key sizes, shapes and placement almost entirely arbitrary, and mix them within a single panel of keys and can vary by a factor of 20:1 in surface area. The user could also set the sensitivity of each key individually via simple functions over the serial port by a host microcontroller. The QT60248 would save time since the key setups are stored in an onboard eeprom. That cause it do not need to be reloaded with each powerup.
QT60248 has eight applications. The first one is security keypanels. The second one is appliance controls. The third one is ATM machines. The fourth one is automotive panels. The fifth one is industrial keyboards. The sixth one is outdoor keypads. The seventh one is touch-screens.The last one is machine tools. It also has some features. The first one is second generation charge-transfer QMatrix technology. The second is keys individually adjustable for sensitivity, response time, and many other critical parameters. The third one is panel thicknesses to 50mm through any dielectric. The fourth one is 16 and 24 touch key versions. The fifth one is 100% autocal for life - no adjustments required. The sixth one is SPI slave interface. The seventh one is adjacent key suppression feature. The eighth one is synchronous noise suppression feature. The ninth one is spread-spectrum modulation - high noise immunity. The tenth one is mix and match key sizes & shapes in one panel. The eleventh one is low overhead communications protocol. The twelfth one is FMEA compliant design features. The thirteenth one is negligible external component count. The fourteenth one is extremely low cost per key.The fifteenth one is +3 to +5V single supply operation. The last one is 32-pin lead-free TQFP package.
Some absolute maximum electrical Specifications of QT60248 have been given into several points. The first one is operating temp which should be -40 to +105oC.The second one is storage temp which should be within -55 to +125oC.The third one is about VDD which should be within -0.5 to +5.5V.The fourth one is max continuous pin current( any control or drive pin) which should be ±10mA.The fifth one is short circuit duration to ground(any pin) which could be infinite. Then the next one is short circuit duration to VDD(any pin) which could also be infinite. The seventh one is voltage forced onto any pin which should be within -0.6V to (Vdd + 0.6) Volts. The last one is eeprom setups maximum writes which could have 100,000 write cycles.
