The Q1900 is designed as viterbi / trellis decoder. It is well suited for many commercial satellite communication networks, including INMARSAT and INTELSAT. The low-cost and high performance of it make it ideal for FEC requirements in systems such as direct broadcast satellites (DBS), microwave point-to-point data links, very small aperture terminals, digital modems, digital videl transmission systems, high speed data modems and military and NASA communication systems.
Q1900 has many features. The first one is viterbi mode rates 1/3, 1/2, 3/4 and 7/8. The next one is trellis mode rates 2/3 and 3/4. The next one is full duplex encode and decode in both viterbi and trellis modes. The next one is large coding gains at Eb/No of 10^-5. The next one is automatic phase synchronization for BPSK and QPSK in viterbi mode and for 8-PSK and 16-PSK in trellis mode. The next one is data rates up to 30Mbps for viterbi mode and 90Mbps (16-PSK) for trellis mode. The next one is 3-bit soft decision or 1-bit hard decision decoder inputs for viterbi mode.
