The PVT412 Series Photovoltaic Relay is a single-pole, normally open solid-state relay that can replace electromechanical relays in many applications. It utilizes International Rectifier's proprietary HEXFET power MOSFET as the output switch, driven by an integrated circuit photovoltaic generator of novel construction. The output switch is controlled by radiation from a GaAlAs light emitting diode (LED) which is optically isolated from the photovoltaic generator.
These SSRs are specifically designed for worldwide telecom applications. PVT412L employs an active current-limiting circuitry enabling it to pass FCC Part 68 and other regulatory agency current surge requirements when overvoltage protection is provided. PVT412 does not employ the current-limiting circuitry and offers lower on-state resistance.
Series PVT412 Relays are packaged in a 6-lead molded DIP package with either through-hole or surface mount ('gull-wing') terminals. It is available in standard plastic shipping tubes or on tape-and-reel. Please refer to part identification information opposite.

It has eight features. (1)HEXFET power MOSFET output. (2)Bounce-free operation. (3)4,000Vrms I/O isolation. (4)Load current limiting. (5)Linear AC/DC operation. (6)Solid-state reliability. (7)UL recognized and BABT certified. (8)ESD tolerance: 4000V human body model and 500V machine model. Those are all the main features.
Some general characteristics have been concluded into several points as follow. (1)Its minimum dielectric strength, input-output would be 4000Vrms. (2)Its minimum insulation resistance, input-output at Ta=25°C, 50%RH, 100Vdc would be 10^12ohms. (3)Its maximum capacitance, input-output would be 1.0pF. (4)Its maximum pin soldering temperature (10 seconds maximum) would be 260°C. (5)Its operating ambient temperature range would be from -40°C to 85°C. (6)Its storage temperature range would be from -40°C to 100°C. And so on.
Also some input and output characteristics are concluded as follow. (1)Its minimum control current would be 3.0mA. (2)Its maximum control current for off-state resistance would be 0.4mA. (3)Its control current range would be from 3.0 to 25mA. (4)Its maximum reverse voltage would be 7.0V. (5)Its operating voltage range would be from 0 to +/-400V. (6)Its maximum off-state leakage would be 1.0uA. (7)Its complies with FCC part 68 surge requirements would be yes. (8)Its maximum turn-on time would be 2.0ms. (9)Its maximum turn-off time would be 0.5ms. (10)Its maximum thermal offset voltage at 5mA control would be 0.5uV. (11)Its maximum output capacitance at 50Vdc would be 12pF. (12)Its maximum on-state resistance would be 27ohms for A connection and 14ohms for B connection and 7ohms for C connection. And so on.
