Description

The ML4790 is a high efficiency, PFM (Pulse FrequencyModulation), boost switching regulator connected inseries with an integrated LDO (Low Dropout Regulator)that incorporates "Silent Switcher™" technology. Thistechnique of ML4790 incorporates a patented tracking scheme tominimize the voltage drop across the LDO and increasethe total efficiency of the regulator beyond that which canbe obtained by using a discrete external LDO regulator.

The ML4790 is designed to convert single or multiple cellbattery inputs to regulated output voltages for integratedcircuits and is ideal for portable communications muipment that cannot tolerate the output voltage ripplenormally associated with switching regulators.

An integrated synchronous rectifier ML4790 eliminates the need foran external Schottky diode and provides a lower forward oltage drop, resulting in higher conversion efficiency.
