The MC12012 is designed as two-modules prescaler which consists of three functional blocks which means a controllale divide by 5 / divide by 6 prescaler, a divide by 2 prescaler, a MECL to MTTL translator. When MC12012 is used with MC12014 counter control logic function and the MC4016 programmable counter, a divide by N programmable counter can be constructed for operation to 200MHz.

Some absolute maximum ratings of MC12012 have been concluded into several points as follow. The first one is about its power supply voltage which would be -8.0Vdc. The second one is about its input voltage which would be from 0 to Vee Vdc. The third one is about its output source current which would be 50mA for continuous and would be 100mA for surge. The fourth one is about its storage temperature range which would be from -65°C to +150°C. The fifth one is about its operating temperature range which would be from 0°C to +75°C.

Also some electrical characteristics about MC12012. The first one is about its power supply drain current which would be max 140mA at 0°C and would be max 130mA at 25°C and would be max 140mA at 75°C. The second one is about its input current (pin 12) which would be max 100uA and it would be max 40uA for the pin 9 and pin 10 and it would be min 4.0mA and max 6.5mA for pin 4 and pin 5. The third one is about its leakage current which would be min -3.0uAdc at 0°C and min -2.0uAdc at 25°C and min -3.0uAdc at 75°C and it would be min -1.1mA and max -2.5mA for pin 9 and pin 10 and it would be min 4.0mA and max 7.0mA for pin 4 and would be min 3.0mA and max 5.0mA for pin 5.
