Description

The MAX232IDR is designed as a dual driver/receiver that includes a capacitive voltage generator to supply TIA/EIA-232-F voltage levels from a single 5-V supply. Each receiver converts TIA/EIA-232-F inputs to 5-V TTL/CMOS levels. These receivers have a typical threshold of 1.3 V, a typical hysteresis of 0.5 V, and can accept ±30-V inputs. Each driver converts TTL/CMOS input levels into TIA/EIA-232-F levels. The driver, receiver, and voltage-generator functions are available as cells in the texas instruments linASIC library.

MAX232IDR has nine features. (1) Meets or Exceeds TIA/EIA-232-F and ITU recommendation V.28. (2) Operates from a single 5V power supply with 1.0uF charge-pump capacitors. (3) Operates up to 120kbit/s. (4) Two drivers and two receivers. (5) ±30V input levels. (6) Its low supply current would be 8mA typical. (7) ESD protection exceeds JESD 22 which means 2000V human body model (A114-A). (8) Upgrade with improved ESD (15kV HBM) and 0.1uF charge-pump capacitors is available with the MAX202. (9) Its applications include TIA/EIA-232-F, battery-powered systems, terminals, modems, and computers. That are all the main features.

Some absolute maximum ratings of MAX232IDR have been concluded into several points as follow. (1) Its input supply voltage would be from -0.3V to 6V. (2) Its positive output supply voltage range would be from Vcc-0.3V to 15V. (3) Its negative output supply voltage range would be from -0.3V to -15V. (4) Its input voltage range would be from -0.3V to Vcc+0.3V for driver and would be +/-30V for receiver. (5) Its output voltage range would be from Vs-0.3V to Vs+0.3V for T1OUT and T2OUT and would be from -0.3V to Vcc+0.3V for R1OUT and R2OUT. (6) Its package thermal impedance would be 73°C/W. (7) Its operating virtual junction temperature would be 150°C. (8) Its storage temperature range would be from -65°C to 150°C. And so on.
