The LTC®1481 is an ultra-low power differential line trans-ceiver designed for data transmission standard RS485applications. It will also meet the requirements of RS422.
The CMOS design of LTC1481 offers significant power savings over itsbipolar counterparts without sacrificing ruggedness againstoverload or ESD damage. Typical quiescent current is only80µA while operating and less than 1µA in shutdown.
The driver and receiver feature three-state outputs, withthe driver outputs maintaining high impedance over theentire common-mode range. Excessive power dissipationcaused by bus contention or faults is prevented by athermal shutdown circuit which forces the driver outputsinto a high impedance state. The receiver has a fail-safefeature which guarantees a high output state when theinputs are left open.
The LTC1481 is fully specified over the commercial andextended industrial temperature range and is available in8-pin DIP and SO packages.
