The LM7912CK is designed as one member of the LM79xx series of 3-terminal regulators which is available with fixed output voltages of -5V, -8V, -12V, and -15V. It needs only one external component - a compensation capacitor at the output. It is packaged in the TO-220 power package and is capable of supplying 1.5A of output current.

LM7912CK has four features. (1) Thermal, short circuit and safe area protection. (2) High ripple rejection. (3) 1.5A output current. (4) 4% tolerance on preset output voltage. That are all the main features.

Some absolute maximum ratings of LM7912CK have been concluded into several points as follow. (1) Its input voltage would be -35V. (2) Its input output differential would be 30V. (3) Its power dissipation would be internally limited. (4) Its operating junction temperature range would be from 0°C to +125°C. (5) Its storage temperature range would be from -65°C to +150°C. (6) Its lead temperature (soldering, 10 sec) would be 230°C. It should be noted that stresses above those listed in absolute maximum ratings may cause permanent damage to device.

Also some electrical characteristics about LM7912CK. (1) Its output voltage would be min -11.5V and typ -12V and max 12.5V. (2) Its line regulation would be typ 5mV and max 80mV.
