The LM7906 is designed as three-terminal negative regulator which is available in TO-220 package and with several fixed output voltages, making it useful in a wide range of applications. It employs internal current limiting, thermal shut-down and safe area protection, making it essentially indestructible.
LM7906 has five features. (1)Output current in excess of 1A. (2)Output voltages of -6V. (3)Internal thermal overload protection. (4)Short circuit protection. (5)Output transistor safe-area compensation. Those are all the main features.
Some absolute maximum ratings of LM7906 have been concluded into several points as follow. (1)Its input voltage would be -35V. (2)Its thermal resistance junction-cases would be 5°C/W. (3)Its thermal resistance junction-air would be 65°C/W. (4)Its operating temperature range would be from 0°C to 125°C. (5)Its storage temperature range would be from -65°C to 150°C. It should be noted that stresses above those listed in absolute maximum ratings may cause permanent damage to device.
