The HEDS series are high performance, low cost, two and three channel optical incremental encoders.These encoders emphasize high reliability, high resolution, and easy assembly.
Each HEDS series encoder contains a lensedLED source, an integrated circuitwith detectors and outputcircuitry, and a codewheel whichrotates between the emitter anddetector IC. The outputs of the
HEDS series are two square wavesin quadrature. The HEDS-5540and 5640 also have a third channelindex output in addition to thetwo channel quadrature. This
index output is a 90 electricaldegree, high true index pulsewhich is generated once for eachfull rotation of the codewheel.
The HEDS series utilizes metal codewheels, while the HEDM series utilizes a film codewheel allowing for resolutions to 1024 CPR. The HEDM series is nont available with a third channel
index.
These HEDS series encoders may be quicklyand easily mounted to a motor.For larger diameter motors, theHEDM-5600, and HEDS-5600/5640 feature external mountingears.The quadrature signals and theindex pulse are accessed throughfive 0.025 inch square pinslocated on 0.1 inch centers.Standard resolutions between 96and 1024 counts per revolutionare presently available.
