The EN29SL160 is an 16-Megabit, electrically erasable, read/write non-volatile flash memory,organized as 2,097,152 bytes or 1,048,576 words. Any byte can be programmed typically in 5s.The EN29SL160 features 1.8V voltage read and write operation, with access time as fast as 90ns to eliminate the need for WAIT statements in high-performance microprocessor systems.

Features of the EN29SL160 are:(1)JEDEC standard embedded erase and program algorithms; (2)JEDEC standard DATA# polling and toggle bits feature; (3)unlock bypass program command supported; (4)single sector and chip erase; (5)sector unprotect mode; (6)erase suspend / resume modes:read or program another sector during erase suspend mode; (7)minimum 100K endurance cycle; (8)hardware locking of sectors to prevent program or erase operations within individual sectors; (9)additionally, temporary sector unprotect allows code changes in previously locked sectors.The EN29SL160 has separate Output Enable (OE#), Chip Enable (CE#), and Write Enable (WE#) controls, which eliminate bus contention issues. This device is designed to allow either single Sector or full chip erase operation, where each sector can be individually protected against program/erase operations or temporarily unprotected to erase or program. The device can sustain a minimum of 100K program/erase cycles on each sector.

The absolute maximum ratings of the EN29SL160 can be summarized as:(1)storage temperature range:-65 to 125;(2)ambient temperature with power applied:-55 to 125;(3)output short circuit current:200mA;(4)voltage with respect to ground all other pins:-0.5 to Vcc+0.5 V.However, if after the initial two read cycles, the system determines that the toggle bit is still toggling,the system also should note whether the value of DQ5 is high (see the section on DQ5). If it is, the system should then determine again whether the toggle bit is toggling, since the toggle bit may have stopped toggling just as DQ5 went high. If the toggle bit is no longer toggling, the device has successfully completed the program or erase operation. If it is still toggling, the device did not complete the operation successfully, and the system must write the reset command to return to reading array data.
