Description

The CS44600 and CS44800 pin-compatible Class-D digital amplifier controllers provide a simple, small and cost-effective solution for DVD receivers, home theater recorders and entry-level audio/video recorders and home-theater-in-a-box systems.

CS44600/800 multichannel digital-to-PWM (pulse width modulation) audio system controllers include interpolation, sample-rate conversion and half- and full-bridge PWM driver outputs. The architecture uses a direct-to-digital approach that maintains digital signal integrity to the final output filter, minimizing the effects of analog interference that negatively affect system performance.

The 6-channel CS44600 and the 8-channel CS44800 offer technology enhancements that allow system designers to lower costs while improving audio quality. These products integrate on-chip digital volume control, peak detect with limiter and seven general-purpose I/Os that allow an easy interface to many power stages. The PWM amplifier can achieve 90 percent efficiency or more, allowing the design of smaller device packages, fewer heat-sink requirements and smaller power supplies.

In addition, CS44600/800 each chip incorporates Cirrus Logic's patented power-supply noise rejection technology, which compensates for the inherent power-supply noise that can hurt audio quality; as a result, a system designer may purchase lower-cost power supplies, reducing bill-of-material (BOM) costs. The power-supply noise rejection technology also enables single-ended outputs, further reducing component count.

The integrated sample-rate converter CS44600/800 minimizes the effects of clock jitter, thus enabling better audio quality with a system dynamic range of greater than 100 dB. These amplifiers also feature Cirrus Logic's patented Popguard technology, which helps eliminate power-cycling clicks and pops.
