The CS4265 is a highly integrated stereo audio CODEC. The CS4265 performs stereo analog-to-digital (A/D) and digital-to-analog (D/A) conversion of up to 24-bit serial values at sample rates up to 192 kHz.
A 2:1 stereo input multiplexer CS4265 is included for selecting between line level or microphone level inputs. The microphone input path includes a +32 dB gain stage and a low noise bias voltage supply. The PGA is available for line or microphone inputs and provides gain or attenuation of ±12 dB in 0.5 dB steps.
The output of the PGA is followed by an advanced 5thorder, multi-bit delta sigma modulator and digital filtering/ decimation. Sampled data is transmitted by the serial audio interface at rates from 4 kHz to 192 kHz in either slave or master mode.
The D/A converter is based on a 4th-order multi-bit delta sigma modulator with an ultra-linear low pass filter and offers a volume control that operates with a 0.5 dB step size. It incorporates selectable soft ramp and zero crossing transition functions to eliminate clicks and pops.
Standard 50/15 s de-emphasis is available for a 44.1 kHz sample rate for compatibility with digital audio programs mastered using the 50/15 s pre-emphasis technique.
Integrated level translators allow easy interfacing between the CS4265 and other devices operating over a wide range of logic levels.
The highly integrated CS4265 stereo CODEC with S/PDIF output provides premium audio performance and an innovative design that integrates five chips into one.
The CS4265 features an integrated analog front-end with 2:1 input mux. Also included is a programmable gain amplifier (PGA) capable of ±12 dB of analog gain in 0.5 dB step sizes with zero-crossing, click-free transitions to maintain superior audio quality. One pair of inputs has a dedicated microphone pre-amplifier in its path that provides 32 dB of gain, and a low-noise microphone bias supply is also available.
The stereo analog-to-digital (A/D) and digital-to-analog (D/A) conversion CS4265 is based on multibit Delta-Sigma architecture. Both the A/D converter and the D/A converter support 24-bit conversion and sample rates up to 192 kHz. High-quality single-ended inputs and outputs are also offered; the outputs feature Cirrus Logic's patented Popguard technology, which eliminates power-cycling clicks and pops - as a result, the number of external components needed is reduced.
The CS4265 operates from either a 3.3 V or 5 V power supply. It has 1.8 V to 5 V logic power supplies for the control and serial port, which allows a direct interface to external processors or microcontrollers without level shifting.
A synchronous S/PDIF (IEC60958-3) digital audio transmitter CS4265 is integrated to provide additional design flexibility and lower system cost.
The CS4265 delivers professional quality at a break-through price point for applications such as DVD recorders and receivers, digital video recorders/personal video recorders, digital TVs, set-top boxes, home media centers, automotive entertainment systems, notebook computers and PC sound cards.
