Main sections include a front end (tuners, QAM and DOCSIS) addressed by the BCM3420, BCM3255 and a back end (HD AVC/VC-1/MPEG2 decoding, audio decode, HDMI, peripherals, transcoding, etc.) addressed by the BCM7400 and BCM7043.

The BCM3255 is an integrated front-end solution for high-end set-top boxes. BCM3255 has a high performance processor that can address the tasks of DOCSIS 2.0+/3.0, channel bonding resequencing, and network protocols such as TCPIP, UPnP and IPv6. BCM3255 is based on the latest cable modem technology, the Broadcom BCM3368 cable modem IC. Cable modems based on the BCM3368 have gone through CableLabs® certification.
