Description

The AMC7587 is a kind of high performance low dropout regulator rated for 1.5 A output current with fixed 1.8 V/2.5 V/3.3 V/5.0 V/ and adjustable output. It is intended for use in applications requiring low dropout characteristics over the rated current range. On chip trimming adjusts the reference voltage to 1%, which makes it ideal for low voltage microprocessor applications requiring a regulated 2.5 V to 3.6 V power supply. Besides, the device provides protections including over current and thermal shutdown. In addition, reverse battery protection scheme limits the reverse current when the input voltage falls below the output.

There are some features of AMC7587 as follows: (1)input-output differential of typically 1.1 V at 1.5 A and low quiescent current; (2)output current is excess of 1.5 A; (3)fast transient response; (4)reverse battery protection; (5)short circuit protection; (6)internal thermal overload protection; (7)available in 3L plastic TO-220, surface mount 3L TO-263/252, and SOT223 packages. The typical applications include: Pentium processor supplies, PowerPC supplies, computer add-on cards and other applications requiring low dropout voltage over rated current.

The following is about the absolute maximum ratings of AMC7587: (1)input voltage, VIN: 10.5 V; (2)operating junction temperature: 150; (3)storage temperature range: -65 to 150; (4)lead temperature (soldering, 10s): 300. Then is about the recommended operating conditions: (1)input voltage, VIN; 2.7 V min and 10 V max; (2)load current (with adequate heatsinking), IO: 0.010 A min and 1.5 A max; (3)input capacitor (VIN to GND): 1 F min; (4)output capacitor with ESR of 10 max (VOUT to GND): 10 F min; (5)operating ambient temperature range: 0 to 70.
