The AD7542 is a kind of precision 12-bit CMOS multiplying DAC designed for direct interface to 4- or 8-bit microprocessors. The device is manufactured using an advanced thin-film on monolithic CMOS fabrication process. It is ideal for many instrumentation, industrial control and avionics applications. The device includes three 4-bit data registers, a 12-bit DAC register, address decoding logic and a 12-bit CMOS multiplying DAC. Data is loaded into the data registers in three 4-bit bytes, and subsequently transferred to the 12-bit DAC register. All data loading or data transfer operations are identical to the WRITE cycle of a static RAM. A clear input allows the DAC register to be easily reset to all zeros when powering up the device.
There are some features of AD7542 as follows: (1)resolution: 12 bits; (2)nonlinearity: ±1/2LSB Tmin to Tmax; (3)low gain drift: 2 ppm/ typ, 5 ppm/ max; (4)microprocessor compatible; (5)full 4-quadrant multiplication; (6)fast interface timing; (7)low power dissipation: 40 mW max; (8)low cost; (9)small size: 16-pin DIP and 20-terminal surface mount package; (10)latch free (protection Schottky not required).
The last one is about the absolute maximum ratings (Ta=+25 unless otherwise noted) of AD7542: (1)VDD to AGND: 0 to +7 V; (2)VDD to DGND: 0 to +7 V; (3)AGND to DGND: VDD+0.3 V; (4)DGND to AGND: VDD+0.3 V; (5)digital input voltage to GND: -0.3 to VDD+0.3 V; (6)VOUT1, VOUT2 to AGND: -0.3 to VDD+0.3 V; (7)VREF to AGND: ±25 V; (8)VRFB to AGND: ±25 V; (9)power dissipation: 670 mW when plastic, to 70; 450 mW when ceramic, to +75; (10)operating temperature range: commercial (J, K, GK versions): -40 to +85; industrial (A, B, GB versions): -40 to +85; extended (S, T, GT versions): -65 to 150; (11)storage temperature: -65 to 150; (12)lead temperature (soldering, 10secs): +300.
