The AAT3696S BatteryManager™ is a single-cell lithiumion (Li-Ion)/Li-Polymer battery charger IC, designed to operate from USB ports or AC adapters up to an input voltage of 6.8V. For increased safety, the AAT3696S also includes input over-voltage protection (OVP) up to 28V.
The AAT3696S precisely regulates battery voltage after it has reached 4.2V Li-Ion/Polymer battery cells through a low RDS(ON) switch. The charging current can be set by an external resistor up to 1.6A. If an over-voltage condition occurs from the input, a series switch quickly opens and a POK flag is activated, preventing damage to the battery and charging circuitry.
Other fault conditions are monitored in real time. In case of battery over-voltage or over-temperature failure, the AAT3696S device will automatically shut down, thus protecting the charging device, control system and the battery under charge. A status monitoring output pin (STAT) is provided to indicate charging activity. This open drain output pin can be used to drive an external LED as a charging indicator.
The AAT3696S offers a 5.0V LDO linear regulator. The regulator is protected by the OVP LDO. This LDO can supply up to 50mA load.
The AAT3696S comes in the Pb-free, thermally enhanced, space-saving TDFN33-12 (3x3mm) package and is rated over the -40C to +85C temperature range.
