8742 has many features. The first one is that it would be 12MHz. The next one is pin, software and architecturally compatible with 8471A. The next one is 8-bit CPU plus ROM, RAM, I/O, timer and clock in a single package. The next one is 2048 x 8 EPROM, 128 x 8 RAM, 8-bit timer / counter, 18 programmable I/O pins. The next one is on 8-bit status and teo data registers for asychronous slave to master interface. The next one is DMA, interrupt, or polled operation supported.
