The 84301 is designed as 4-port fast ethernet controller with a rich set of operating modes and features. 84301 is manufactured as a single-chip VLSI device to simplify and enhance the development of multi-port ethernet embedded systems such as bridges, switches and routers.
84301 has many features. The first one is low power CMOS technology. The second one is 4-port ethernet controller optimized for switching hub, multiport bridge/rounter, server applications. The third one is it supports 100base-T4, 100 base-TX, 100base-FX & 10base-T transceivers. The fourth one is it meets ANSI/IEEE 802.3 and ISO 8802-3 standards for thicknet (10base-5), thin net (10base-2) and twisted pair (10base-T). The fifth one is standard 10MBit/sec serial mode or programmable MII ethernet interface for 10/100MBit applications. The sixth one is preable generation and removal. The seventh one is automatic 32-bit FCS (CRC) generation and checking. The eighth one is collision handling, transmission deferral and retransmission with automatic jam and backoff functions.
