The 8291A is designed as GPIB talker / listener to interface microprocessors to an IEEE standard 488 instrumentation interface bus. It implements all of the standard's interface functions except for the controller.
8291A has many features. The first one is programmable data transfer rate. The second one is complete source and accepyor handshake. The third one is complete talker and listener functions with extended addressing. The fourth one is service request, parallel poll, device clear, device trigger, remote / local functions. The fifth one is selectable interrupts. The sixth one is on chip primary and secondary address recognition. The sixth one is automatic handling of addressing and handshake protocol. The seventh one is provision for software implementation of additional features. The eighth one is 1 to 8MHz clock range. The ninth one is 16 registers (8 read, 8 write), 2 for data transfer, the rest for interface function control, status, etc. The tenth one is directly interfaces to external non-inverting tranceivers for connection to GPIB. The eleventh one is about its it provides three addressing modes, allowing the chip to be addressed ether as a major or a minor talker / listener with primary or secondary addressing. That are all the main features.
Some absolute maximum ratings of 8291A have been concluded into several points as follow. The first one is about its ambinet temperature under bias which would be from 0°C to 70°C. The second one is about its storage temperature range which would be from -65°C to +150°C. The third one is about its voltage on any pin with respect to ground which would be from -0.5V to +7V. The fourth one is about its power dissipation which would be 0.65W. It should be noted that stressing the 8291A beyond the "absolute maximum ratings" may cause permanent damage. These are stress ratings only. And so on. for more information about 8291A please contact us.
