The 24C256 is designed as an electrically erasable PROM device that uses the standard 2-wire interface for communications. It contains a memory array of 256K-bits (32,768 x 8), and is further subdivided into 512 pages of 64 bytes each for page-write mode. This EEPROM is offered in wide operating voltages of 1.8V to 5.5V (IS24C256-2) and 2.5V to 5.5V (IS24C256-3) to be compatible with most application voltages.
It has thirteen features. (1)Organization is 32Kbit x 8bit. (2)64-byte page write buffer. (3)Two-wire serial interface bi-directional data transfer protocol. (4)Low power CMOS technology: active current less than 3mA (5V), standby current less than 6A (5V), standby current less than 2A (2.5V). (5)Wide voltage operation IS24C256-2: Vcc=1.8V to 5.5V and IS24C256-3: Vcc=2.5V to 5.5V. (6)1MHz (I2CTM protocol) compatibility. (7)Hardware data protection write protect pin. (8)Sequential read feature. (9)Filtered inputs for noise suppression. (10)Self time write cycle with auto clear 5ms at 5.0V. (2)Its voltage on any pin would be from -0.5V to Vcc+0.5V. (3)Its temperature under bias would be from -40°C to 85°C. (4)Its storage temperature range would be from -65°C to 150°C. (5)Its output current would be 5mA. It should be noted that stresses above those listed in absolute maximum ratings may cause permanent damage to device.
Also some electrical characteristics of 24C256 are concluded as follow. (1)Its output low voltage would be max 0.2V at Vcc=1.8V and would be max 0.4V at Vcc=2.5V. (2)Its input high voltage would be min 0.7Vcc ad max Vcc+0.5V. (3)Its input low voltage would be min -1.0V and max 0.3Vcc. (4)Its input leakage current would be max 3uA.
