The 1N2993B is designed as 10W zener diode and it is one member of the 1N2970 thru 1N3015B series which provide voltage regulation in a selection over a 3.9V to 200V broad range of voltages. 1N2993B may be operated up to 10 W with adequate mounting and heat sinking with their low thermal resistance. These zeners 1N2993B are also available in JAN, JANTX, JANTXV military qualifications.
1N2993B has eight features. (1)JEDEC registered. (2)Internal solder bond construction. (3)Hermetically sealed (welded). (4)Zener voltage 3.9V to 200V. (5)Also available in JAN, JANTX, and JANTXV qualifications per MIL-PRF-19500/124 by adding the JAN, JANTX, or JANTXV prefixes to part numbers for desired level of screening; (e.g. JANTX1N2970B, JANTXV1N3996A, etc. (6)Standard polarity is anode to case (stud) for 1N2970 thru 1N3015B. (7)Reverse polarity is cathode to case. (8)Consult factory for surface mount equivalents. That are all the main features.

(5)Its forward voltage at 2.0A would be 1.5 volts. (6)Its thermal resistance would be 10°C/W (typical) junction to case (stud). (7)Its solder temperatures would be 260 °C for 10s (max). It should be noted that stresses above those listed in absolute maximum ratings may cause permanent damage to device.
