This circuit shows a way to increase the stability of regulator output over time and temperature. The circuit is particularly useful in powering strain-gauge transducers (chapter 14). The output voltage is divided down and compared to the 2.5-V reference by A1, which, in turn, forces the adjustment pin to whatever voltage is required to maintain the 10-V output.
