This circuit is an improved version of the circuit shown in Fig. 8-21. The hysteresis effect is eliminated by the addition of two diodes and the 5.1 -kΩ resistor. The RC network across the triac is a snubber to prevent line transients from accidentally firing the triac. The circuit operates from a 120-V 60-Hz source, and can control up to 1000 W of power to incandescent bulbs (but not fluorescents).
