Gate-turnoff scr (GTO) provides superior overload protection for d-c power supplies. Chief advantages are elimination of tum-on current surges, switching off within 30 microsec of overload, automatic load sensing, and reset, and no appreciable effect on power supply efficiency.-W. C.
