Figure 9-11 shows the ADC0816/17 connected to provide for an ADC with eight differential inputs. The differential inputs are implemented in software. All 16 channels are paired into positive and negative inputs. Then the control logic or microprocessor converts each channel of a differential pair, loads each result, then subtracts the two results. This method requires two single-ended conversions to do one differential conversiqn. As a result, the effective differential-conver sion time is twice that of a single channel, or a little more than 200 μs (assuming a clock of 640 kHz).
