Cadmium selenide photoconductor PC and Ne2H neon lamps give low-speed inverter action for logic circuits at low cost. Neon B is on when there is no input. When neon A provides input, PC turns neon B off.-J. L. Patterson, Will Neon Photoconductors Replace Relays in Low-Speed Logic?, Electronics, 36:18, p 46-49.
