Noncarrier related components are rejected, and the amplifier passes only signals, which are coherent with the carrier. The amplifier can extract a signal 120 dB below the noise level. The signal source is a thermistor bridge, which detects extremely small temperature shifts in a biochemical microcalorimetry reaction chamber. To trim, adjust the phase potentiometer so that switching occurs when the carrier crosses through zero.
