555 astable multivibrator circuit

As the figure shown, if you connect 555 (or 1/2 556) with three resistance, tolerance components, it is the astable multivibrator mode. The difference between the astable multivibrator mode and the monostabillity mode is: the astable multivibrator mode's trigger port (pin-2) connects to the C of the charging & discharging circuit, but not controlled by the output trigger.
