Microchip’s MPLAB® PM3 Universal Device Programmer was capable of supporting all of Microchip’s PIC® microcontrollers (MCUs) and dsPIC® digital signal controllers (DSCs). The PRO MATE® II universal programmer had been previously rated one of the leading programmers in CMP’s 2002 Embedded Market Study, and the MPLAB PM3 added a number of improvements. These included faster programming, USB connectivity, improved socket module connection, SD and MMC card storage and a built-in In-Circuit Serial Programming interface.
The MPLAB® PM3 Universal Device Programmer was easy to use and operates with a PC or as a stand-alone unit, and programs Microchip’s entire line of PIC® devices as well as the latest dsPIC® DSC devices. When used standalone, data could be loaded and saved with the SD/MMC card (not included).
The programmer could be connected to a PC via a USB or serial port, or could be used as a stand-alone unit. For maximum ease-of-use in standalone mode, it Featured a larger and brighter 128-64 pixel graphic LCD screen providing menus, programming statistics and status information, and an SD/MMC flash card slot for easy and secure data storage and transfer. When connected to a PC, the MPLAB PM3 was fully integrated into Microchip’s free MPLAB Integrated Development Environment (IDE) software, or could be used via a separate command line interface. Other key features of the MPLAB PM3 include: Complete line of interchangeable socket modules to support all programmable Microchip devices and package options (sold separately). Adapter allowed PRO MATE II socket modules to be used on MPLAB PM3 (sold separately) Serialized Quick Turn Programming-^ for encoding unique serial numbers in PC host mode Buzzer notification for noisy environments. The MPLAB PM3 Universal Device Programmer was supplied with a power supply, serial and USB cables, and an ICSP cable, and was available for $895.
