According to Bruce Diesen, an analyst at Carnegie Group (Oslo, Norway), the three-month average basis of worldwide semiconductor sales were likely about $24.55 billion in June, up slightly from $24.4 billion in May, but down from May on a seasonally adjusted basis.
Diesen also indicated that the seasonal decline would be compared with the reasonably strong levels of May, when chip sales came in better than expected. He predicated the sales of $24.55 billion in June would still be a decent level. The report from Diesen wrote Tuesday (July 17) said that there have been some recent profit warnings in the PC and handset sectors, but that seems to be something that will show up in chip shipments in Q3.
Diesen lowered his forecast for 2012 chip sales earlier this month. He expected sales to be roughly flat with 2011 sales of around $300 billion. However, Diesen’s forecast is consistent with the year forecasts from the Semiconductor Industry Association trade group and the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics group.
