Plessey Semiconductors Ltd. has pushed PS25451 which is a low-cost version of its electric field sensor. The original version was aimed at medical applications, such as a remote heart-rate monitoring, while PS25451 sensor provides remote sensing for high volume consumer markets.
The PS25451 utilizes a novel electrode to replace the titanium dioxide electrodes currently used for the higher end, medical applications of the electric potential integrated circuit (EPIC) technology. The PS25451 can be widely used in monitors, proximity switching of lighting, computer games, TVs, gesture-based remote control of interactive toys, other appliances and presence detection for security/alarm systems. The EPIC sensor also can be used for security motion sensors and non-contact electrical switches as well as medical applications detecting heart beats, nerve and muscle activity either by dry contact or without contact even at a distance and through clothing. It is developed for more than eight years.
PS25451 is available in production with pricing for less than $1 in volumes above 50,000.
